Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why do you only accept some Anthem/BCBS plans?

This is a long answer so let me try my best. Anthem is a large health insurance company that’s structured differently from some other health insurance plans, which might be owned by individuals or private entities. It is a publicly traded, for-profit company and is part of a larger network of BCBS plans across the country. BCBS plans are a collection of independent, locally operated insurance companies such as BCBS of NH or BCBS of TX. Since BCBS is a part of the parent company, Anthem, and each state has it’s own individual plan - we are limited in what plans we have been credentialed with (meaning which plans we are in-network with).

  • What actually is out of network (OON) reimbursement?

If you have a PPO or POS type of health insurance plan it means you can see a provider out of network and receive some money back from the insurance company to cover the cost of your care. We can help you understand your benefits and double check the cost. Sometimes therapy can be very affordable using your out of network benefits. we’ve seen some companies pay 70-90% of the cost.

  • Are there any benefits to paying out of pocket for sessions?

Yes, though it depends. If you pay completely out of pocket and do not seek reimbursement - your insurance company never knows which inherently provides you more privacy.

  • Do you share what I say in session to insurance companies?

Sort of! In order to bill your insurance we have to diagnosis you with a mental health condition that meets medical necessity for care (like generalized anxiety disorder or primary insomnia disorder). If an insurance company requests medical records (which they can) I do legally have to oblige. With that being said, I document my notes to meet insurance standards without writing down every detail you talk about in session. Feel free to ask questions and I’ll explain more!

  • My insurance portal says your in-network but it has a different address?

Both myself and the other therapists have worked (and or currently work) in other settings and practices which may accept different insurance plans. I recognize this is confusing and I apologize - we are not able to see you through the other locations we work out of.

Some health plans offer Out of Network reimbursement which we can help you understand!
